Cory Johnson is the Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Pender Capital. Cory co-founded Pender in 2015 and brings more than 16 years of experience in real estate acquisition, development, finance, and asset management expertise. Cory is responsible for the firm’s overall financial strategy and overseeing all of Pender’s business operations and is a member of the Investment and Risk Committee, Management Committee, and Compliance Committee. Prior to Pender, Cory founded three successful real estate funds which employed value-add strategies through asset repositioning, while maintaining attractive risk adjusted returns to investors. In 2012, Cory co-founded Latitude Properties LLC, a vertically integrated real estate investment firm focused on the acquisition, rehabilitation, asset management, leasing, and disposition of distressed single-family residences throughout central and southern California. Cory oversaw the successful acquisition and stabilization of Latitude’s portfolio. In 2008, recognizing an opportunity to reposition assets in the Greater Los Angeles residential market, Cory co-founded and was managing partner of Paladar Capital Investments, LP and Montero Capital LLC, two funds specializing in the acquisition and repositioning of distressed single-family residential assets. In 2006, Cory served as land acquisition manager for MDC Holdings Inc. and was responsible for acquiring suitable development sites for the nation’s 9th largest homebuilder. From 2002 to 2005, he served as a business development representative for Weyerhaeuser Mortgage Company, a GE Consumer Finance company. During his tenure at GE Consumer Finance, Cory’s team originated more than $525 million in residential debt. Cory received a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of California, Santa Barbara.

Zach is the co-founder and Chief Investment Officer of Pender Capital. Zach co-founded Pender in 2015 and brings over 16 years of experience in both commercial real estate finance and capital markets expertise. Zach oversees the firm’s Investment and Research program which includes deal sourcing, research, and structuring and is a member of the Investment and Research Committee and the Management Committee. Prior to Pender, Zach served as Managing Director/ Senior Vice President for Liberty SBF, a commercial finance company based in Philadelphia, where he was responsible for establishing Liberty’s Western Regional HQ in Los Angeles and directed West Coast originations and operations. Zach personally originated over $60 million of commercial loans during the first year of operations on the West Coast. In 2008, Zach joined Silver Point Capital, LP in New York, a Goldman Sachs partner fund, where he was responsible for commercial real estate loan originations and insurance-linked securities trading. During his tenure at Silver Point, Zach traded more than $500 million in distressed commercial real estate debt, insurance-linked securities, and assets in the capital markets. From 2004 to 2008, Zach served as Senior Vice President/Division Director of Velocity Commercial Capital where he was the company’s highest grossing originator in each consecutive year, responsible for more than $300 million in originations. Zach earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Arkansas.

John Weaver has over 22 years of experience in the financial services industry and is the owner and managing member of San Jacinto Advisers LLC. San Jacinto provides outsourced Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer consulting services to select SEC-registered investment advisers. In 2019, Pender Capital Management, LP retained San Jacinto’s consulting services. Prior to San Jacinto, from 2016 to 2018, Mr. Weaver was Chief Operating Officer & Chief Financial Officer at Silver Rock Financial, LP. Silver Rock is an SEC-registered investment adviser in Los Angeles with approximately $3.5 billion in assets under management at that time. From 2013 to 2016, he was Chief Operating Officer at Camden Asset Management, a 25-year SEC-registered investment adviser in Los Angeles with approximately $3.5 billion in assets under management at that time. From 2007 to 2013, he was Senior Vice President at Ironwood Capital Management, a long-standing SEC-registered investment adviser in San Francisco. From 2006 to 2007, Mr. Weaver was Senior Vice President and Head of HSBC Alternative Fund Services in San Francisco. From 1996 to 1998, he worked at Ernst & Young LLP’s St. Louis office, and from 1998 to 2006, the San Francisco office, where he served in various accounting and advisory roles (including as Senior Manager from 2000 to 2006). Mr. Weaver earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with majors in both Accounting and Finance from the John M. Olin School of Business at Washington University in St. Louis. He is also a Certified Public Accountant in the State of California.

Cameron is the Chief Compliance Officer and Counsel at Pender Capital. Cameron joined Pender Capital in 2019 and brings over 10 years of commercial real estate legal experience. Cameron oversees all legal and compliance matters at Pender Capital, including corporate and business transactions, litigation, and governance. Prior to joining Pender Capital, Cameron was Senior Vice President & General Counsel at Red Mountain Group, a national commercial real estate investment firm, with a portfolio of more than 4 million square feet located across 17 states. From 2013 to 2018, Cameron last served as Vice President, Legal & Business Affairs, with Ten-X (also known as Auction.com), one of the nation’s leading online real estate platforms. During his tenure with Ten-X, Cameron oversaw legal matters related to the commercial division of the company. From 2009 to 2013, Cameron served as Associate Corporate Counsel & Assistant Secretary for KSL Resorts, a full service private equity hospitality management company. Prior to joining KSL Resorts, Cameron was an attorney at Robbins Umeda, LLP (now known as Robbins Arroyo, LLP), a securities litigation firm located in San Diego, California. Cameron earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Irvine, and a Juris Doctor degree from University of San Diego. He is licensed to practice law and holds a California Real Estate Broker’s license

Seth is the Director of Investor Relations at Pender Capital for the Institutional, RIA, and Family Office markets.  Prior to joining Pender Capital, Seth managed the distribution effort for the United States at an equity asset manager specializing in dividends, energy & infrastructure for seven years.  Prior to that position, Seth was a regional marketing consultant for Phoenix Investment Partners (Virtus).  Seth started his career in the music business for Warner Bros. Records.  A graduate of University of Southern California, Seth holds the Series 7 & Series 66 licenses and is a member of the NYSSA.

Steve Thomas is the Controller at Pender Capital. Steve joined Pender in 2019 and brings 12 years of experience in hedge funds and private assets, with a focus in operations, finance, and accounting. Steve is responsible for the firm’s financial accounting, tax and treasury functions. Prior to Pender, Steve worked for Cliffwater LLC as a Vice President of Risk & Reporting in Marina del Rey and Coast Asset Management LLC in Santa Monica. Steve attended Alabama State University in Montgomery, AL.

Tyler Tinoco is the Investor Relations Operation Manager at Pender Capital. She is responsible for facilitating all communications with Pender’s investors and RIA relationships to ensure client satisfaction. Tyler has been with Pender since 2016 and has been a key part of the tremendous growth of the company. Tyler has over a decade of experience in customer satisfaction, client service, and retention.
